Meyler Campbell Digest: September 2020

The monthly Meyler Campbell Digest will keep you up to date on all things Meyler Campbell and will provide you with a range of some of the best content we have found in the past month.

< Back to News & Opinion

As we approach the end of Meyler Campbell’s year we have cause to reflect on the last 12 months – what began as a year of celebration for our 20th anniversary has turned out to be so very different to the year we’d envisaged. As John Lennon famously said ‘Life is what happens when you’re making other plans’ but I’m not sure any of us could have begun to imagine the events of this year.  Starting with the mass politicisation of our young people leading the protests on climate change, followed by the global pandemic and the ensuing tragic deaths of so many people, and then by the shocking death of George Floyd which forced us to confront the enduring reality of systemic racism in our society and the work we need to do to change that.

In recognition of those events Meyler Campbell is determined to begin the coming year facing forward and building on all that we have learned during the last 12 months. We are mindful of all of the good work that has been done, and continues to be done, within our community on Anti-racism, support for the NHS and other front line workers, and on our continued learning and sharing as exemplified by the content you have produced and the free webinars you have helped to deliver.

In this, the first edition of our new monthly MC Digest we will combine the best of our previous Newsletter and the MC Bulletin. Thank you for all the positive feedback you have sent us about the Bulletin, we are delighted that it has helped you to manage the period of lockdown. As we emerge into the next phase of the pandemic era the Digest will keep you up to date on all things Meyler Campbell and will continue to curate the great content so many of you have told us you love.

You will also see a change in how we deliver the CPD calendar. Mindful of a shorter timeline of certainty this is being published for only the period to the end of this calendar year. It contains a broad mix of paid and free to access events and we hope these events will continue to stretch us all and extend our learning.

Thank you for all that you’ve done and continue to do. Please tell us what more we can do to support you.

The Coaching The NHS scheme has been a great success so far but we are aware we have much more to do. To date we have matched 135+ Meyler Campbell coaches with leaders in the NHS and we continue to make new matches every week. Almost all of our coaches volunteered to take on two NHS leaders as clients, and as such we still have over 200 coaching opportunities available. The response we have had from this scheme has been incredibly positive from coaching supervisors, coaches and coachees alike.

We have received testimonials from some of our volunteers; one of the Meyler Campbell volunteer Supervisors shared: “Let me take this opportunity to say how impressed I have been by the graduates. It is a pleasure to work with them and each member of the group contributes thoughtfully and with sharp insight during supervision.”

A Meyler Campbell volunteer Coach stated: “It was an honour and delight to support Meyler Campbell’s NHS coaching initiative as a member of the MC coaching alumni. From my perspective the process was seamless from start to finish, and the client I coached was over the moon to access such services during what has been an incredibly challenging time for them and their team. Well done MC team, sterling job!”

Given the number of volunteer coaches still available, we need your help. Do you know any leaders within the NHS who would benefit from pro-bono coaching by a Meyler Campbell qualified coach? They can sign up to the scheme here: https://people.nhs.uk/support-for-leaders/coaching-and-mentoring-for-leaders/

We will also be offering a Coaching In The NHS webinar very shortly for all of our Meyler Campbell coaches volunteering for the scheme. Keep an eye on your emails for our announcement.
