A moment for reflection

A message to the Meyler Campbell community from Catherine Devitt

< Back to News & Opinion

Meyler Campbell is committed to the achievement of a fair and equal society. We stand against racism and racial discrimination along with all other forms of discrimination.

The worldwide condemnation and protests against the death of George Floyd and the disproportionate impact of COVID-19 on the BAME community highlights the real cost of racial inequality and the frustrations of those who face discrimination daily. It also shines a light on our own challenges of racial inequality and reminds us that as a learning organisation and as a coaching community, we need to listen, strive to learn and understand and then challenge ourselves to do better on the difficult issue of discrimination and exclusion.

To all of the BAME coaches within our community and the BAME clients that we serve, know that we keep challenging ourselves to deliver our services in ways that value and do not ignore difference. We need to listen harder and learn from you so that we know what we can do better.

We suggest that this offers all of us a moment to reflect and then act to ensure that our coaching drives us and our clients to unearth the sometimes invisible, but nevertheless powerful, assumptions about difference and the impact of bias and discrimination.

Please talk to us, we’re listening.
