Dear friends,

We have lots to share with you in this month’s July Digest. We enjoyed a delightful evening with so many of our wonderful community at our annual Summer Drinks; the occasion felt especially meaningful as we presented the very first Lifetime Achievement Award to Ann Orton, thanking her for over twenty years at Meyler Campbell.

We have some great syndicates in formation and are looking for your recommendations for Mastered participants to complete them. Our 2026/2027 Events calendar was announced, and with something for everyone, it promises to be a fantastic year of ongoing learning and development. Also, this November, there will be an opportunity for our Alumni in the North of the UK to get together.

From the community, we share four articles from our alumni: Rachael Baker shares reflections on family leave, Alberto Torres seeks to understand the ‘Z’ Curve, Cayetana Hurtado explores the hardest things CEOs have to change, and Graham Browning looks at the hidden curriculum of belonging.

Students and Alumni can join the WhatsApp Community Group to stay connected on the go, as well as take part in the next read for the Goodreads Community Group.

Near the end of the Digest, you’ll find a range of curated resources which we hope you will find useful and interesting. Don’t forget you can also watch Event Recordings and listen to the Meyler Campbell Podcast Series too.

If you have any suggestions for upcoming Digest issues, please email us at connected@meylercampbell.com.

This year’s Summer Drinks was made even more special with the announcement of our very first Lifetime Achievement Award.

We were delighted to present the award to Ann Orton, whose dedication to Meyler Campbell has spanned more than 20 years.

From serving on our Faculty to playing an instrumental role in the success of our pro bono coaching partnership with Cancer Research UK (CRUK), Ann has also made an invaluable contribution to the continued success of the Mastered programme.

Congratulations, Ann, and thank you again for everything you have done for Meyler Campbell.

Mastered: Recommendations and Introductions

Our approach to Mastered syndicate formation is to ensure as much as possible that each trio is made up of people with a broad palette of experience and from a range of backgrounds. It’s always our intention to have gender balance in the syndicates and at the moment we’re under-represented by men. We’ve got some fantastic groups forming at the moment, and are looking for participants that will complete them to enrich the community further.

If you’re thinking about transitioning into a portfolio career, exploring a second career in business coaching, or simply looking to deepen your coaching skills, the Mastered programme could be the next step for you.

If you know of friends or colleagues who may be interested, please do encourage them to attend the upcoming Introduction to Mastered event on Wednesday 9th September. It’s a perfect opportunity to ask burning questions, meet with tutors on the programme, and hear from previous participants about their experiences.

Transitions shape both our coaching practice and our personal lives, often challenging identity as much as circumstance. Join Faculty Member Liz Gooster and coaching supervisor Linda Feerick for an interactive afternoon exploring how coaches can work more effectively with change through practical models, shared experience, supervision and reflective discussion, with opportunities for networking afterwards.

If you would to join this event, please contact event co-ordinator Derrick Watson at derrick@equitaspartners.co.uk or drop a note in the Northern Alumni WhatsApp group.

Chosen by you, our latest Goodreads Community book was The Creative Act: A Way of Being by Rick Rubin, a beautiful and generous course of study that illuminates the path of the artist as a road we all can follow.

Interestingly, this book provoked some mixed reactions when reading and the main consensus was that while useful, it is easy as a reader to take what is needed without feeling required to digest the whole book. In fact, this was almost encouraged by Rubin who, as quoted, says “Use what’s helpful, let go of the rest.” An enjoyable read to dip in and out of.
