As we approach the change from the old year to the new, I wanted to reflect a little on Meyler Campbell’s role in the world. We facilitate change for our clients as they move from organisational leadership to executive coaching, from subject matter expert to trusted adviser, from command-and-control manager to coaching-style leader, or from a workshop facilitator to a team coach.
On a Meyler Campbell programme, participants often go through a struggle, and even some darkness, before emerging with increased self-awareness and greater ability to connect, to listen, to grow and to help others flourish. The more leaders there are who can handle uncertainty, who can listen, who can suspend judgement and can hold an unconditional positive regard for others, the better.
Meyler Campbell was born in the last century, and as it moves towards the second quartile of this, its excellence in teaching leaders the skills, mindset and approach to getting the best from themselves and others remains undimmed. Its impact, however, seems to me to be increasingly vital. In a tiny way, we add a little more humanity every time one of our alumni simply listens, or quietly asks an open question, rather than jumping to judgement or issuing a pronouncement. Long may it continue.
With all best wishes for Christmas, the festive season and the New Year,
Guy Ashton
CEO, Meyler Campbell
